John St. Clair, son of Hugh S. St Clair and Julia Ann (Rutter) St. Clair, was born about 1841 in Pennsylvania. He appeared on the census of 26 September 1850 in the home of his parents at Wheatfield, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.[1]
He married Nancy Jane Buchanan, daughter of James Buchanan and Mary Ann (Unknown) Buchanan, on 10 August 1865 in Perry County, Ohio. Her father applied for the license.[2]
He was a sawyer when he and Nancy appeared on the census of 21 July 1870 at Marion, Hocking County, Ohio.[3] He was a manufacturer when he and Nancy appeared on the census of 21 June 1880 at Scott County, Tennessee.[4]
